Name/Alias: Niabi
Age: Mid 40s. Would look around a decade younger, if she hadn't started to grey.

Appearance: (first impressions, how a stranger would perceive them. a few sentences.)
A serious-faced woman who moves with careful purpose, as if always tracking. A few streaks of silver are beginning to lighten the black of her hair, which is always pulled back in an easy utilitarian tail. Smiles rarely, but when she does it's surprisingly warm and sincere.

History:

Born on an island farther along the archipelago to the people native to it.

Her younger sister with whom she was extremely close died young from a condition that could have been managed with effort from the community but it was ultimately decided for a variety of reasons (including suspicions of witchcraft) that it wasn't worth it to do so. She decides in her grief and anger to leave and go to Northcliff, not on the regular pilgrim's path, but for the forest and its legend.

She is accepted by the forest, hearing it speak in her mind, and makes her home separate from the town in the fringes of it. She is slowly and dubiously accepted by the community because each week she brings meat, skins, and herbs from the forest to market that Nobody Else Wants To Go In And Get.

She has continued to do this every week for the last 25 years. The only other moment of real note is that she found, briefly cared for, and returned to the village the Guard Captain after his near-death some years back.

Personality:
Niabi grants a weighty formality to every interaction, always giving her full attention to whoever it is she's speaking to. She's entirely unflappable, unnervingly patient, has an unwaveringly even temper, and is largely monosyllabic, speaking in short sentences when she speaks at all. Has a straight-faced wry sense of humor (all of which make it difficult to pin down when she's actually joking, but she doesn't take it personally if no-one laughs). Somehow, despite all this, she largely comes off as simply insular rather than standoffish or unapproachable.

Abilities:

Exceptional hunter, trapper, and tracker.

Can identify and harvest herbs, doesn't do anything with them except very simple folk remedies one might need while living alone and trade them.

Excellent shot with a bow, but refuses to join or practice with the guard or hunt for sport. The only exception she makes is to trade practice shots with the Captain on rare occasions.

Knows the forest better than anyone except whatever terrible arcane things live in it.

Reputation:

Reliably hard worker. Never volunteers, but will unfailingly stop and help with any task if asked.

So punctual and with such a regular schedule that you could use her to tell time.

Every few years someone floats the idea that she might be a witch, but nobody ever thinks about it for longer than the sentence it took to float it.

She might be weird as shit, but she's ours.
